Travel Cyber Security

Cyber security threats have been increasing for financial institutions and their customers. It is important to know how to prevent this from happening at home or on the go.

Safety tips while traveling include:

  • Avoid free Wi-Fi – free public Wi-Fi is a go-to spot for hackers to steal unsecure personal information on your devices. Using your mobile hotspot or a secured VPN can prevent this from happening.
  • Confirm the correct network – if you have no other choice but to connect to the public Wi-Fi, make sure to confirm with the staff which network is the legitimate one.
  • Disable Wi-Fi auto-connect – most mobile devices connect automatically to open an wi-fi. Disable the feature and only manually connect when you’re wanting to.
  • Secure all devices – keep track of all electronics that you bring on your trip. Never leave your devices unattended in public places.
  • Avoid shared computers – when using public computers in places such as hotels and libraries, avoid accessing any personal information that you wouldn’t want shared with anyone. You don’t know if the systems are updated with the latest security software or if the computers have been tampered with.

When traveling, use these tips to help ensure your safety from cyber threats.

Only put personal information on trusted devices.

Once done traveling, it’s best to scan for viruses and malware to ensure your devices have not been compromised.
