Banking while Traveling
During the holiday season traveling is more common than ever. Unfortunately, so is fraud. That’s why we’ve put together a few handy tips about holiday fraud and travelling.
Contacting Our Customers
We will call our customers to verify suspicious activity. We will never ask for any of your personally identifying information, such as your social security number or account number however. If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be a bank employee and this person asks for personal information, simply hang up. It’s not us. If you stay on the phone, the fraudster may try to scare you into giving them your personal information. If a bank employee ever does need to call you, they will NEVER ask you to provide personally identifying information.
For your protection, Centennial Bank and/or MasterCard may decline transactions that seem suspicious. This can include transactions that are out-of-state or out-of-country. You should call a local branch or our customer care center (888-372-9788) and have them place a travel alert on your account before you swipe outside your state of residence.
It can be difficult to find surcharge-free ATMs when you’re travelling. If you end up using an ATM that charges you, be sure to get a receipt! Every checking account at Centennial Bank is eligible to receive reimbursement for any ATM fees you pay in the United States. Just keep your receipts and bring them to your local branch within 60 days of the transaction date and the fees will be reimbursed. If you have a VIP or a Simply 100 checking account you don’t even need the receipts!
With higher levels of fraudulent activity occurring during November and December, our customer care center is busier than usual. Local branches can also assist customers. If you do need to contact the customer care center, note that Monday’s and Friday’s are especially busy so calling mid-week may result in faster service.
Lost or Stolen Card
If your card is lost or stolen, you can report it by calling 1-800-883-0131. You can also call our customer care center (888-372-9788) or visit a local branch and have your card turned off and replaced.
